For couples who land somewhere between loving Valentine’s Day and despising everything the holiday stands for, it can be tough to find your person a truly unique and creative gift. Too often, it’s easier to turn to a bouquet or a heart-shaped box than do some digging for a creative one-of-a-kind gift.
On Valentine’s Day, I like to do something special. Some of my fondest memories are of writing cards for elementary school classmates. On other occasions, it was the preparation for the holiday that was special.
Whether you are preparing for a romantic evening, warming up the winter blues, or want to give a gift to someone, Valentine’s Day is a time to feel and look your best.
Here are several ideas that might help you on your way:
Botox or Dysport Injections
Facial line relaxers like Botox and Dysport are most commonly used around the eyes and forehead. Both can be used both to prevent and treat wrinkles and are great for removing the “angry” lines on our foreheads, glabella, and crow’s feet.
Volumizing Filler Injection
This is an excellent way to refresh your appearance, address moderate to severe facial wrinkles, and give youthful contour to the skin. Fillers, such as Radiesse, Juvederm, Perlane, Restylane, and Sculptra, can be used in many areas including the lips, nasal creases, and frown lines around the mouth. Lip injections can create a natural more youthful mouth and decrease lip area thinning and wrinkles. Learn more about the benefits of fillers by watching a video on Dr. Persons' YouTube Page here.
Fraxel Laser Treatment
For Valentine’s Day preparation, I recommend a first treatment one week before the big day. A series of Fraxel Treatments (generally 3 to 4) address texture problems, fine lines and wrinkles, and pigmentation issues such as brown spots. Results can be noticeable after just one treatment.
Laser Genesis is a YAG Laser used for non-ablative laser resurfacing to smooth skin texture, treat acene. diminish pore size, and reduce redness and acne scarring. Over time it can stimulate the development of new collagen in the skin. For best results, multiple treatments are recommended, spaced two to four weeks apart. At times referred to as a “lunch-time laser” treatment, Laser Genesis is a quick, painless procedure with no downtime. It appeals to people who cannot take time off work to recover, and people preparing for a special event who don’t want to risk looking red or swollen.
IPL (Intense Light Pulse) Laser Treatment
IPL is used to treat sun damage, age spots, and rosacea. The treatment is commonly used on the face, neck, shoulders, back, and hands. It is also known as broadband light (BBL), photorejuvenation, or photofacial. The photo below shows amazing results after just one treatment.
Laser Hair Removal
While not exactly the vestige of Christian and ancient Roman Valentine’s tradition, laser hair removal is a real windfall of living in the 21st century. Several treatments are generally needed, and it works best for darker hair types.

I find this to be one of the most important interactions I have with my patients. During our one on one consultation, I enjoy answering questions and offering both personal and professional advice. I’m often surprised at how many people ask if surgery is right for them.
