One feature that’s universally associated with attractiveness for both men and women is a well-defined chin. That’s why the appearance of a double chin is one of the most common concerns we hear at our Lafayette and Brentwood, CA, practice. KYBELLA provides people from Walnut Creek and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area with a nonsurgical solution.
As a fellowship-trained plastic surgeon whose personal connection to plastic surgery inspired her to pursue this career as a lifelong calling, Dr. Persons engages with each of her patients on a very personal level. She's known for creating results that look natural and brings a woman's perspective that patients appreciate.
Meet Dr. PersonsDo you shy away from selfies because they tend to highlight your double chin? If that sounds familiar, KYBELLA can help. Double chins—a condition that is clinically called submental fat—can develop even if you’re not overweight. The appearance of a double chin is typically caused by one or more of these factors:
Fat tends to accumulate in the neck below the chin, which is why double chins are fairly common. KYBELLA isn’t a good option, however, if your neck skin is lax and sagging. In that case, a neck lift is the most appropriate procedure.
KYBELLA treatments involve injecting a synthetic form of a chemical called deoxycholic acid into the area below the chin. Deoxycholic acid naturally occurs in the body and helps absorb dietary fat. When it’s injected below the chin it works by destroying fat cells. This essentially results in the cells being unable to store fat, triggering the body’s natural response to remove them over time.
KYBELLA treatment plans vary from patient to patient, based on the consultation and physical examination. A typical KYBELLA treatment session involves multiple injections made in a grid-like pattern. Your provider marks specific injection sites with a pen at the beginning of the procedure. This is discussed during the consultation. In addition, more than one session is usually needed to get the desired results. Typically, it takes between 2 and 4 treatments depending on the patient’s response and aesthetic goals. We schedule treatments at least a month apart.
You can expect to experience some swelling after KYBELLA injections. As the body becomes accustomed to the treatment, you may see swelling is diminished after subsequent treatment sessions. You may also notice some bruising or numbness under the chin. Areas of firmness or redness may occur as well. In most cases, these side effects are minimal and resolve on their own.
Because there is swelling after a treatment session, you won’t notice the results immediately. It also takes time for the fat cells to die and be flushed from the body.
